I strive to capture the form, the texture,
the character, and, above all, the spirit of the animal in my
sculptures while conveying universal messages of
acceptance, kindness, love and sometimes disillusionment and
sadness. Beneath the gentle and beguiling exterior, something
deeper and knowing is hopefully captured in the animal’s
gesture and expression.

Individually sculpted from slabs of clay,
my animal
sculptures are hand stained and then fired
in a kiln. The surface is sometimes silky and soft, and
sometimes highly textured to reflect the skin of the animal. A
thin coat of clear glaze is applied, followed by another
firing, protects and enhances the surface of each sculpture. As
all my sculptures are completely crafted by hand, each one is
an original and no two are exactly alike.

After graduating from the Ontario College
of Art (now OCAD University), I worked as a graphic designer in
Toronto for many years. I started to use clay as my artistic
medium after I move to Prince Edward County. My work is very
much influenced by the peaceful, rural surroundings of the
county and the many animals that I come to know and love. I
participate in many juried shows around southern Ontario every
year. My work is in many private collections in Canada, the
United States and Europe.
